A Catskills hamlet organizes to reclaim its historic charm.
We are a group of Pine Hill community members whose mission is to celebrate the history of our village by restoring an 1880s hotel into an inviting community retail and fully restored apartments.
Our Project Receives Recognition from the National Trust for Historic Preservation
We are honored to share that our community-led project has been recognized by The National Trust for Historic Preservation—a powerful acknowledgment of the work we’ve done together to preserve, protect, and uplift our shared history. We have been included on the prestigious 2025 list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. The most endangered list is an annual designation of the National Trust that raises awareness about threatened historic sites across the country.
This recognition places our project in the national spotlight, validating the importance of our efforts and amplifies our voice and strengthens our position as we continue advocating for preservation. This milestone belongs to every volunteer, supporter, and neighbor who has contributed time, energy, and love to this project. We’re proving that community-led preservation is not only possible—it’s essential.

The Wellington, a building worth saving, but we already knew that!
The Building
In the heart of historic Pine Hill, a once-bustling tourist destination in New York's Catskill Park, sits a former community staple. The Wellington Hotel has fallen into disrepair, keeping nearly 11,000 sq feet of beautiful woodwork in one of the Western Catskill's only downtown areas from its full potential. It is our mission to restore this historic cornerstone property to use, with a sustainable, community-first development project that includes both retail and apartments.
our vision
On the ground floor, a warm café, modern general store and grocery market will provide local options for fresh and healthy food, finally serving the breakfast and lunch crowds and providing walking distance groceries for Pine Hill residents. We hope this space will serve as a community living room and will invite visitors, hikers, and skiiers alike to cozy up by the fire and enjoy a warm drink side by side with the locals.
The second and third floors will feature fully restored apartments, providing much-needed housing for our neighbors and the broader community. These updated units will include five studio apartments and five one-bedroom apartments. The primary focus of this housing initiative is to support the hardworking individuals who make the Catskills thrive—our dedicated workforce. In addition, we are creating community-focused spaces designed to bring area visitors and locals together, fostering a sense of connection that reflects the true spirit of our region.
We are a community lead project.
